Need opinions on what my best option on networking my Gaming PC is :)

Hi guys/gals,

I've recently moved into a new house, and my power over ethernet doesn't work here(my best guess is because this new house doesn't have good internal wiring) 🙁. So I was wondering how I could still get an ethernet connection if the modem/router is downstairs, and my PC is upstairs. If not, what would the best WiFi adapters (PCIe or USB) be for my PC!.

ISP: Telstra
Modem/Router: Telstra Smart Modem
Connection Type: Velocity

Motherboard: MSI X370 Gaming Pro Carbon
PSU: SilverStone 550W 80+ Gold
OS: Windows 10
GPU: Galax GTX 1080 Exoc Sniper White (Applicable because certain PCIe WiFi adapters wouldn't fit under it possibly)

Notes: There are two ethernet ports under directly under my PC setup, but obviously I couldn't just connect an ethernet cable from there to my PC lol

I'd suggest getting a USB dongle wireless adapter t regain internet connectivity. Provided your router is wireless. If you want to take advantage of the ethernet ports(provided you're correctly identifying them as Ethernet ports and not telephone ports) then you could get a hold of the owner and ask for a wiring diagram or have an electrician scope out/trace the source of the ports.

For a pair of powerline adapters to work, the wall sockets being used must be on the same circuit, so may be that's why yours didn't work - - - - very often the upstairs and downstairs sockets are on two different circuits so if one circuit overloads and trips it doesn't leave the entire house without any working sockets.

A variation of this in some houses is that sockets at the front of the house are on a separate circuit to the sockets at the rear of the house (that applies to my house). Luckily, my powerline adapter upstairs and the one downstairs are both at the front of my house, so they share the same circuit.
