I recently installed a gigabyte bluetooth 4.0 and wifi card into my pc. It worked well but my router was still too far away. I bought an extension cord to get the receiver closer to my router. When i plugged in the extension, I figured out the wireless wouldn't work because the bluetooth wasn't plugged in. I really don't want to buy another cord for $25. Can anybody think of a way to fix this?

Solution
Ok, it has nothing to do with Bluetooth vs wifi.

The Bluetooth and wifi are using the same antennas, but you need BOTH antennas.
You cant just run this card off of 1 cable.

That gigabyte card already had some short extension cables on it to raise it from the back of the PC.
Unless you were using the cables to go through an obstacle (like putting the antennas on the other side of a thick wall from where the PC is), then the 15 ft of antenna is not going to make any significant difference.

At this point, buying the extension cable was just spending more bad money.
You either needed to not use wireless and use powerline adapter, or if you don't have access to the router then you needed to get a high power wireless bridge like a ubiquiti...
Can you tell us what products you actually have. At this point not sure if you have a laptop or a desktop, if you are talking about antenna extension cables or usb extension cables or what.

Unless it is something application specific there should be no reason that wifi would not work just because you don't have Bluetooth plugged in.

Also, if you are paying $25 for a usb extension cord then you are either paying way too much or you are buying way to log of a usb cable.

I have a desktop computer and I am talking about antenna extension cables. The card I am using is:

Gigabyte Bluetooth 4.0/WiFi Expansion Card Components Other GC-WB867D-I.

I am trying to extend the wifi signal with this:

Andrew Commscope C4-0K9K-H13S WiFi Wireless Antenna Extension Cable CNT/LMR-240 RP-SMA Male to RPSMA Female Connectors (15-Feet)

The reason the cord is $25 is because it is 15ft and a low loss cord.

I am using the cable to go around a wall. I have tested the speed of the new location for the antenna and it is significantly better. If i wanted to continue with the extension, would I need another cable? BTW, there is only one antenna for both wifi/bluetooth.

Lastly, would it be possible to take apart the base station and remove the bluetooth part? This way I could use one wire because the bluetooth would not be extended.
