Hi,

Can anyone recommend a PCI Express 2/3 SATA 3 (6Gbps) add on card that works well with Samsung SSD drives (850 EVO, 850 Pro). (UK)

I need to run 2 SSDs in addition to the ports already used on the motherboard.

With the card I have, the performance is terrible, and Windows 10 only recognizes the drives as HDD.

I tried running WinSat formal and diskformal but they made no difference.

Any help appreciated.

Solution

Depending on motherboard, you could get different results.

If you have a 2.5" SATA SSD, I have used the https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00AZ9T3OU on both Windows 7 and 10.
I install the card allow Windows 10 to download and install drivers then power off and connect the SSD.
Windows 7 needs...

Hi, not if that means NVME - the drives are Samsung 850 Evo & Pro https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/consumer/850evo/ --- https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00P736UEU/ref=asc_df_B00P736UEU57903292/?tag=googshopuk-21&creative=22146&creativeASIN=B00P736UEU&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310773493424&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3560698100660082975&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9046286&hvtargid=pla-562895946479

Does it recognize the SSDs as SSDs and not HDD in Windows (defrag) ?

What speeds are you getting with it?

Thanks.
