Ok so I've upgraded my computer a little bit and its used strictly for gaming. however I have a single core 3.1 Ghz processor which to my understanding is ok but not great. now my motherboard now has a LGA 1155 socket type and I found a Quad-Core 3.5Ghz (turbo to 3.9) that has the 1155 socket (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116501). I also found a processor with sort've the same specs but its for a 1150 socket. I have intentions on upgrading the motherboard due to the fact that the one I have now only holds 8GB of memory. here is the Processor with the 1150 socket (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116941z) I guess Im just looking for some advice on what to do.

What is your current motherboard?
The 3770K is a fine cpu, but probably not the optimal pick, at least to be purchased new.
If your motherboard is Z77 based, then you can overclock the "K" to higher numbers like 4.4.

Your second link does not work. I might guess that it points to a i5-4690K which is as good as it gets for a gamer.
Pair that with a Z97 based motherboard.

8gb of ram is not bad. One does not need more for gaming.

right now I have the stock Motherboard for the Dell inspiron 660. I believe it is a Vostro 270. I do not know what the chipset is. I was looking at a Z77 chipset but from what I can tell its not offered with a micro atx mobo and I believe that's what case I have now

and what about the Intel Core i7-4790 ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117369)

Your link points to a i7-4790K which is different from a i7-4790.
If budget is not a big concern, the i7-4790K is as good as it gets.
It runs faster at stock(4.0-4.4) and has hyperthreading.
Hyperthreads are not much help to a gamer who will normally use 2 cores.
The i5-4690K is $100 cheaper and will be just as capable for the gamer.
With a mild overclock, it will perform about the same in gaming as the 4790K.

That is as good as it gets for gaming.
Only if you were planning on dual graphics cards(which I do not recommend) might you opt for a different motherboard.
The one you linked can support only one slot at X8 or better.

If you live near a microcenter, they will sell you a 4790K for $280

I don't mess with overclocking because I do not know what im doing with it. the only problem im running into now is internet. I do not have wired capabilities in this room so I would need to look at a wireless adapter for my computer
