Hello, a year ago I bought the HP P7-1234 from Best Buy. The computer starting having issues, so they "fixed" it for free under the service plan. It's still acting up and I don't have time to be without a computer mid-semester. I'm going on Friday to get a replacement, but I'm torn.

I definitely want a desktop and my budget is $500. The one I already have got great reviews so I'm considering getting the same one again, but this marks the third bad experience I've had with HP. I spotted the Dell I660S-1540BK and it got great reviews at a great price. I'm really looking for something for college with a decent memory and that will last a long time. Any suggestions?

I totally get that. Here are a couple other Best Buy options that might be worth taking a look at:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Lenovo+-+Desktop+-+4GB+Memory+-+1TB+Hard+Drive/9008225.p?id=1218968346319&skuId=9008225

These are all a boost in RAM and hard drive space. I really like Lenovo's laptops, haven't tried their desktops, but...

Main brands can be so hit or miss, it's hard to say. I've had pretty good experience with Dell, besides their overseas customer service. There's a decent Labor Day sale on Dells right now, like this one: http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?cs=19&dgvcode=ss&c=US&l=EN&vw=list&oc=fddnrt09b&dgc=CJ&cid=7420&lid=566643&acd=10550055-227502-F0120005NC00BD366046ZZ0A99366046C84A01A0A0Z122

Not sure if you have time to order one and have it delivered though. The one you listed is probably a pretty standard machine, that hopefully would last you for a while. It's hard to say with these systems sometimes. Bummer about your experience with HP.

Good luck!
