Need PSU for HD 5970

I am going to build a new system which will include:

i7-920
HD 5970 Black Edition
Nvidia GTS 250
Gigabyte ex58-ud5 board
G.Skill 4 X 2 gb ram 1600 MHZ
2 X 1TB Seagate


Please recommend me a good Power Supply because i will be overclocking HD 5970 So hard. I have Seen in a review that it needs, 20A for the rail supporting the 8-pin connector, and 15A for the 6-pin connector. Link to it is here,

Those amps are on the high side. Truth is, the 8pin can only deliver 150w or 12.5a. The 6pin 75w connection is 6.25. Since thats the MAX your card can draw, a single rail with 20a is enough. That being said, where are you shopping and how much of a budget do you have? I'd say to stay in the peak efficiency of a PSU (meaning only loading it to near 50% of capacity) a quality 850w+ PSU would be good. You're in essence with that GTS running a 3way GPU setup, even though only 2 are for graphics.

2 notes on your build,

The x58 platform uses triple channel ram. Get 3x2gb kit. Unless you're doing production graphics and editing, you won't use the extra ram for gaming or regular PC apps.

Make sure you do your homework on using both ATI and Nvidia at the same time. Last I knew, the nvidia drivers wouldn't allow a card to be used just for PhysX if it detected a non Nvidia GPU doing the graphics load. With that in mind, how soon are you building? Fermi should be out by the end of April and with how much you're going to drop on the 5970, you'll be able to afford the first cards released.

Then I'd suggest keeping it in triple channel as production also benefits from the extra bandwidth, but you'd only be running in dual channel mode with that arrangement. So either go for 9 (3x2 and 3x1) or all out and go for 12 (6x2)
