My current rig is a
AMD FX 8350 with
Gigabyte gtx 670 oc tri-force with
Ennermax 425w PSU
A friend is giving me his R9 290x All I really know about PSU's is I'm going to need a more powerful one. Can anyone recommend one?
I don't know if the mother board model makes a difference. It's a gigabyte, I can look up the model or any information if needed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Solution
Yes, you're going to need a stronger, better quality PSU.

Do you have a budget in mind for the upgrade?

I'd suggest a 600W minimum for that setup, but quality is very important.

Some quality (relatively) budget options.
620W SeaSonic S12II @ $63

Or an EVGA SuperNOVA B2 @ $79

The EVGA gives you a decent amount of extra headroom, which is never a bad idea, but the SeaSonic would do just fine for you.

I believe the 'official' requirements for a 290X is 750W

I see what you did there... But yeah you're right for some reason I was either thinking of a 450W PSU or thinking the 290X was 400W one wrong thing was going through my head.

Thanks for all the help everyone it's a sapphire r9 290x tri-x 4GB. Is there anything wrong with getting a more powerful PSU? It seems every gen of hardware gets more powerful. My budget is $200 or less CDN.
I was looking at the suggested EVGA, and will likely get that.
