need recommendation for speakers

Hi, i was looking at speaker specifications and there are 2 that seem to be important i think, Frequency Response and the # of watts? Can anyone explain what these numbers mean and what would give the best quality?

Frequency response is the range of sounds that the speakers can make. The wider the range the better in general. Keep in mind that the human ear can hear from about 20Hz (vibrations/second) to about 20,000Hz.

Watts is, well, power. In general more is better.

As far as what would give the best quality, there are a whole bunch of variables that can determine the best quality. If you're looking to buy some speakers it would be easier if you just posted your price range so ppl can make recommendations.

I have a set of Altec Lansings. Specifically the Altec Lansing 221 (2 satellites w/subwoofer). Dont let anyone tell you that you have to spend more than $50 in order to be happy with your speakers. You can definately get some good sound out of these guys. Granted, you wont be able blast holes in the wall with amped up power, but for general music/gaming use, you cant do better for $50 in my opinion. Plus, if you get tired of just 2 satellites, why not buy a second set of 221s to use as surround sound? I know a guy who did this and was happy with the result.
