Hey guys, I built a new system 2 weeks ago and have wanted to OC since I'm a gamer, but have waited to make sure all of my parts are good, and won't fail to soon. So, I wanted to start OCing heavily but won't do it without a better cooler than the stock HSF... It's a C2Q Q8400

Basically, I need something that would be really easy to isntall, PREFERABLY without taking the mobo out, although I doubt there's one like that so basically one that's affordable, cools well, and is trusted, and easy to install, because I wouldn't know where to start.

Also, I currently OC'd it to 3.0Ghz from it's stock 2.66Ghz, with temps not being able to idle below Core0 at 37, core1 at 36, and core2/3 at 35, and under full complete stress testing with Prime95 after 10 minutes they hit 67C, but I normally only hit 55C when playing MW2, are these good temps?

thx for your help

Thanks for your help, can't get cheaper than $20.

The Xigmatek HDT-S1283 did a fantastic job on my Q6600 (and now my i5-750) which was a hot running Core2Quad. Though to mount it you'd need to put a strap below the motherboard to screw into it.

Your current temps are within reason. So it's not a huge issue. However, if you ever want to try to Overclock any further, I'd suggest a better cooler before you try.

+1 for the S1283, I used it for an e8500 overclock that's been running stable for almost 2 years. I'm recommending it, and the bracket mount, for an i5-750 build I'm doing for a friend.

i like zalman coolers but they gonna run u about 50 i think the cheapest they have is around 40 but in all honesty ive seen people OC with a cheapo aspire which u can find on ebay for 10 or 20 sam goes for thermaltake they are cheap also and work fairly good

www.frostytech.com is a good place to go to research coolers. They've got ranked lists and lots of reviews.

I've got an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro that I'm going to replace soon, because the 92mm fan is whiny when it ramps up. The replacement will probably come off one of the "quietest" lists, but with good performance. I'm happy with the 3.2GHz OC on my Q9450.
