Would like to build some systems in 1U or 2U trays. Need to find a SocketA motherboard with ethernet & video onboard - or how else do you use these boxes?

When I saw the subject line for this thread this is the board that immediately sprung to mind.

However once I read the full post I realised that a PcChips board would be the last board that I would recommend for any type of server application.

There may be other brands of board available that use the same chipset as this PcChips board (SIS 730s) that would be more suited to the purpose.

Thanks for the input. Looks like the performance on the SiS730s might argue againgst it for my application. On the other hand, if one insists on 'everything' the solution probably doesn't exist. *grin* The pointer on the SiS at AnandTech was particularly helpful.

Hi,

The mobo companies seem to be slow to get integrated LAN/SCSI/etc onto SocketA boards. I've currently got an Asus P2B-LS, and am waiting for a similar mobo to you.

Closest I've found is an msi (http://www.msi.com.tw) with integrated video, firewire and Ultra160 SCSI (AMD760 chipset) - no LAN tho :O(

As for servers in racks - i think the only workaround would be to use USB or Firewire and connect LAN etc that way - less than ideal though. There seems to be plenty of choice with Intel mobos with integrated stuff...let's hope SocketA catches up soon.

Thanks. I'd missed the MS-6341, which has both the AMD761 and the Adaptec 7899 - and it supports DDR. I didn't see any video on it, or on any of the other K7 boards. Thanks.
