Need some advice with changing the timing and frequency of my RAM in the BIOS.

I have an ASUS z77 mobo, i7 3770k and 8 gigs of corsair dominator platinum ram at 2133 mhz.

Now normally, my motherboard doesnt support this RAM (as seen here).

But it still works, now also normally the timing is 9-11-10-30 for the RAM is, but currently the timing is set to 8-8-8-24 for some reason.

I know where to change this in the bios, but my question is, if i do change it to 9-11-10-30, will I see any issues?

Also, with the frequency...

Since my RAM naturally runs at 2133... would I see any issues with changing the frequency from 1800 (which its running at currently) to 2133?

Have you tried to just load the XMP profile? All that'll happen if your motherboard can't load that profile is it will default to memory settings that will work and then reboot.

If timings are 8-8-8-24 it has probably dropped down to the default supported speed of 1600.

Don't worry, that is still very fast for gaming and most apps.

to go faster, you will likely need to manually set the ram timings, frequency multiplier and voltage in the BIOS. If your board is new enough, it can probably pick up the memory profile (XMP) and optimize settings if you tell it to detect.

This is what I want to do, manually set it to 2133mhz and 9-11-10-30 timing. Do you see any issues with doing this?

Run cpu-Z.
It will tell you what your ram is currently running at, and what xmp settings the ram supports.
In your bios, look for XMP setting options.
Pick the one for 2133. It will likely bump your ram voltage to 1.65v.

If you can't get higher speeds, don't worry much about it.
Higher speed is accompanied by higher cas numbers which negate much of the advantage.

Between 1333 and 2133, you are looking at perhaps a 1-3% difference in real app speed or FPS.

No you won't have any issues, those are the stated speed and timings of the RAM, and there won't be any issues in running the sticks on those stated values. The MoBo does support this RAM, with XMP Profile 1 enabled.

Thanks guys, got it working from the combined efforts here. Found and just picked XMP profile 1 and it set the timing and frequency correctly.
