Hi

I very much know very little about computers and have recently inherited a computer with an new WD Green EZRX as the Hard Drive. (i5 4430, 8GB DDR Ram, ASUS H81M-C MB)

I am looking to use it primary for work (just excel, word etc) and also using lightroom for photo editing (hobby).

I want to have a backup drive/faster drive so I was wondering whether I should:

1.) Look at purchasing a WD Black/Blue for better performance when loading OS and using lightroom.
2.) Go one step further and buy a 120GB SSD drive for the OS (although I would need to save the photos on the WD Green) and backup in the cloud (reliability)
3.) Just stick with Green (Although I don't like the reliability that seems to be caused by it parking(?) every 8 seconds)

Any thoughts would be appreciated (if possible please be specific with a specific product!)

Thanks in advance
Rob

A SSD would be great as your primary/OS drive as everything would load faster - Samsung is known for reliability but there are also other reliable SSDs. The WD greens are good for storage as they are slower, but from what I've read they have a higher than average failure rate. The WD Black is faster than the Blue which is faster than the Green and WD's reliability seems to be slightly better than the other manufacturers.

I have SSD's as primary and hard drives for storage in my computers and it makes everything quicker/"snappier" including in my older computers, so that is what I recommend. Whatever drive you get, make sure anything you don't want to lose is backed up since any drive can fail at any time.
