Ok, how are you guys, I currently have a pc with the following specs:

  • Gigabyte random mobo (forgot name and its not near me atm)
Intel Core 2 Quad core q8400
    8gb of 1333MHZ ram
    x2 1tb hdd
    Nvidia Geforce 9800GT
    and a 450 wat psu
What I would like to do is upgrade my GPU, I currently have a 6pin pci which I'm not using, and would like to upgrade my GPU to atleast a 750 TI, my maximum budget is 100 Pounds.

Solution
just wait for the release of GTX 1050.
It supposed to be around your max budget and will give you the best graphics performance.
I have to note, that your CPU is kinda weak for modern AAA games.
For example BF1 will have problems running on this CPU.

You should go ahead and get that GPU, I highly believe you will experience lots of improvement with the GTX 750 Ti thrown in. What bothers me is that the Q8400 is not the most energy efficient processors out there with a TDP of more than 120-30 Watts, plus you got two 1 tb HDD and if any additional hardwares like extra chassis fan, etc are present then that 450 Watt PSU might not hold good despite the 750 Ti being so energy efficient.

Don't you think the GTX 1050 will get bottle necked by that ancient Q8400?

In my opinion 'bottlenecking' isn't important. It just means that you wouldn't get as much performance out of that part as you would with a more powerful CPU. This is not inherently bad. What is important? Is the performance you get from this upgrade what you require? That's what's important. So then, next question is will the 750ti handle the games you play at the settings and framerate you want? You can check this easily by looking at benchmark testing, both for the games you play as well as the 750ti.

The AMD RX 460 2gb is a bit faster, has newer tech, and can be had without a 6 pin connector required. I'd consider that. I think a GTX 950 would be ideal, but might cost too much. The 1050 is probably going to have a similar price to a new GTX 950, so it might cost too much as well.

I am darn sure the 750 Ti won't be bottle necking the Q8400 much as I have had some experience with that setup (one of my cousins used the same config not so long ago before he upgraded his system), but I won't vouch for the same for a card which is yet to hit the market and for an issue as dynamic as a bottle neck which actually varies according to requirements IMO.

^ there is a bottleneck in any system. and it's not that some component bottlenecking other component. the bottleneck exists only in terms of application performance. Different applications/games performance depend more on different components. so it's the least important thing when choosing a part.
100 pounds GPU is more than balanced for this build and see no reason not to get the best performing part for the money. especially because of the trendy bottleneck crap that does not exist.
