Hey I'm new to the boards but I'm impressed with the wealth of knowledge after looking through all the threads. I'm currently running on a ~5 year old system (AMD Athlon 64/6600 GT) I've had no real problems with gaming until my recent monitor upgrade (Samsung T240HD) I play TF2, L4D, CS and have not been able to move to higher end games such as crysis but would like to.

I'm looking to build a new system in the $800-900 CAD range that I can comfortably run current gen games at. I do video and image editing every so often, but this computer will be mainly for gaming. I'm not worried about future upgrading unless it can be reasonably factored in. A rig that will last 2 years will be plenty fine.

If the community would be kind enough to suggest a beginning point or create a build for me it would be greatly appreciated. As much as I would like to think I know what I'm doing, I'd rather ask people who are much more knowledgeable.

Thanks! :)

Try to use www.ncix.com they will price match everything as long as it's in stock and it's visa verified. Use website like www.shopbot.ca and http://bestdirect.ca/ , http://directcanada.com/ .

Since you do video editing I recommend you going with i7 920 , the prices for the gtx 260 from nvidia have gone down to so grab one of those, its the best deal for your money.

Give us more information so we can help you out better, what kind of a monitor will you be using?

I stated above that I'll be using a Samsung SyncMaster T240HD 24". I plan to use this system for gaming and video/image editing strictly and keeping my current computer for general use such as browsing, music, etc. on a seperate 19". So all I am really looking for is a new rig. I have monitors, keyboard, mouse, and everything like that covered already.

I'm looking to stay within the $800-900 CAD range and NCIX is local for me so I can go into retail locations.

Cost is the important factor. I want something that will last me through the coming 2 years and I am not worried about futureproofing the system. I need to stay within budget while getting the most out of it in the now.
