Hey everyone, I'm getting a new rig but I'm on a budget. I've been doing some reading and see that a lot of people are recommending ati cards. I thought Nvidia has been dominating ati lately. I was fully expecting to get an evga nvidia card and a core 2 duo and be done with it, but it seems to be more complicated than that.

Anyway here's what I'm looking at so far...

I'm looking to spend between $150-$200 and want the best performance/reliability for this price range.

Any help would be very much appreciated =)

thanks!

^ If you could spend just about $50 more, you can get the HD 5850 for ~$260, that is as powerful the GTX 285 and is the younger brother of the HD 5870...
But I highly doubt you can find 1...

But if you are not worried about next gen then this card is fine...they both have a good price but dont have a lifetime warranty but they would have 2/2+ years warranty though...

Thanks for the reply.

The lifetime warranty is very important to me actually, and spending an extra 15-20 bucks is worth it in my eyes. Trust me man, I've been there, hardware failure out of warranty is a nightmare.

The 5870 would be perfect, but an extra $60 is a pretty big deal on a $200 product, and the 5770 is a bit too slow.

I just want to know if the most powerful card for $200 is the HD4890, since that's what I'm leaning toward.

I don't upgrade that often actually. I've been using a 9800pro for about 7 years now.

About DX11, I'm not holding my breath. I remember all the hype (and awesome videos) about DX10 a few years back and never saw anything miraculous come out of it. I'm rusty on that, so could be wrong. I won't be purchasing for a few weeks, so I'll keep a look out for 5850's though, that's what I'd really prefer.

After thinking about it, I wouldn't mind waiting a few months if the 17 and 5850's drop down to around the $200 mark. it seems like a big tech upgrade and figure the prices will be lower after christmas.

what do you guys think? can i expect these $270ish items to be more like $200-220ish in a few months?

dnt be a knee jerks .. i m jst trying to point out the DX 11 features... 5770 and 5850.. also have dx 11... and are cheaper..

Ahh sorry mate, didn't mean to offend =)

I actually did some research and I'm really liking the HD 5850. I'm thinking I might wait till after Christmas and see if the price drops closer to $200
