need some help deciding on a pc.

currently I own an old pc which I have upgraded a bit since I got it. but I desperately want a new gpu. seriously considering the rx 470 4g. but I don't want it to be held back due to poor components. I came across a pc that I'm considering getting and then selling my current one and making upgrades from there. my pc specs are i5 650, intel dh55tc (stock mobo.) 12 g ram, gt 610, 500 w psu. the pc I'm looking at has i7 950, 24 gb ram, 2tb hdd, asus sabertooth x58 mobo. I'm aware these are old but I'm on a tight budget and I'm trying to save as much money as possible. with all that said do you think this is really an upgrade and if so do you think it would hande an rx 470 fine?

Yes the rx470 is such a good deal. Your system should do OK so try it see. If doesn't meets your need the rx470 would make a good card to move to a more powerful system.

an i7 950 and a rx470 would work, although with CPU heavy titles there will be some bottlenecking. But apart from that its not a bad system, the old i7 processors still hold there ground to some extent.

the thing is I don't have enough money to buy both and test. I either buy the pc and sell this one THEN buy the card, or buy the card and have the chance my pc isn't good enough and then I wait ages for a new mobo + cpu.

Well your i5 650 is a bit faster than my OCed Thuban. I have a R9 280 that's a bit under the rx470 which runs well.

The upgrade will be worth it, going from dual core to quad core even on older systems will help. Your plan is a good one, selling the old system to pay for the 470.
