Question Need some help on mem/cpu/mobo compatability please

I'm lost and quite honestly confused!

I have a Ryzen 7 2700X cpu and a MSI B450 Tomahawk mobo on their way to me as I type this. I already have some Corsair memory and I'm wondering if I can use it with the combination above.

The memory does not appear on the supported list of memory on MSI's website, but I have been told elsewhere that "memory is memory" and that it will work. Question is... will it? Last thing I want to do is damage my new setup!

It will almost certainly work but if it isn't on the QVL from MSI then it may not run at full speed.
Even if it doesn't run at 3000 MHz, it will NOT damage your motherboard.

As DMAN said, there should be nothing wrong. It should run at 3000Mhz perfectly though, just not guaranteed. Just make sure you put the sticks in slot 2 and 4 (so it looks like empty, RAM, empty, RAM) and make sure you enable XMP in the BIOS (or DOCP). This is usually found under the overclocking section.

Just been reading the online manual and I see it says exactly what you have written above, populate the DIMMA2 and DIMMB2 sockets first, a good job you mentioned it as I probably would have filled A1 & A2...

What is XMP? It appears to be some sort of "plug'n play" feature for RAM?

XMP is an automatic overclocking feature on motherboards. It will set the parameters of the RAM to those which are needed to run the RAM at over the default speed. This default speed is typically anywhere from 2133 to 2666, so as you could gather, a lot slower than your 3000MHz RAM. XMP will simply adjust the settings to get it running at 3000MHz without you having to manually adjust anything yourself.
