So I upgrade my processor from a athlon 64 x2 3800+ with temps of 35 idle and 45-50 on load. I got an athlon 64 x2 5600+. And my temps are 50/60 idle and I'm not even going to try a test. Is it a faulty cpu or do I need a new heatsink? I currently have the stock one. I have arctic silver 5 thermal compound. I am really stuck and confused :(

Solution
If you had the default Amd stock cooler that was on the 3800+
And are using it with the 5600+ then the answer is yes a new cooler.

The cpu is running at a higher clock speed and produces more heat quicker.
More surface area of the cpu cooler is needed to keep it in check.
So it can absorb and dissipate the heat quicker.
It`s thermal mass. The ability to soak up heat and expel it.
A larger footprint area surface of the cooling block.
