Need some info on swapping out HDD on old build

ok, this is what Im trying to do, My son is trying to keep my old build running ( just until he builds his own ) money ya know. Well everything works but the HDD is a 250 GB WD and is super slow at booting up and for that matter its slow at everything. Now My oldest son did home school and when he was done he was able to keep his school PC. This is what we would like to do. Take the HDD out of school PC ( WD 640GB ) wipe said drive clean ( all files, OS, partitions , everything. Then clone the old 250GB HDD ( OS, ALL files, everything ) to the 640GB HDD and install the new HDD in old PC and hopefully it will run as if nothing happen. Question can this be done? and if so how. Thank you for your time in this matter

Yes it can be done and there is a cople ways to do it. I would suggest this way though

Plug both hardrives into one pc. after you do this enter the CMD (command prompt) and type in "diskpart"

once you enter diskpart type in "list disk" once you see the list of disks figure out which one is the hardrive you want to wipe (640gb). the disk is going to be either 0 or 1.

Once you see the list and know which disk it is type in "select disk (enter number here)".

Once that disck is selected all you have to do is type in "clean".

Once you do that the hardrive with be wiped and there you have it. after everythig is complete type in "exit"

NOTE: Make sure you have a copy of windows because I believe you may need to reinstall it.

Now to move over 250GB HDD to 640 should be really easy...

I have both HDD out of his PC and was gona see if I can do the whole thing with my PC. I was thinking on connecting the 640gb to my system and using CCleaner disk wiper, will that work as far as wiping the 640 clean? and can I clone the old 250 ( OS and all ) to the 640gb, again using my PC to do all of this?
