Need someone to explain the difference between these two CPU's

they are basically the same with tiny tiny bit of difference....
4590 has hd 4600 integrated GPU and s has hd 4000
4590 has a higher TPD than s......84 watt vs 64 watt...
the clock speed of 4590 is 3.3 and the4590x is 3.0 so a little bit under clocked.... hope this helps....

The S-version of the CPU has a lower clock speed, so it needs less power to run, making it ideal if you want to keep down the power consumption.

What The S at the end of i5-4950S means:

(This Is The Same For Other Intel Cpus - i3 - i5 - i7)



So The i5-4950S Uses 65W while the i5-4950 uses 84W thus ur able to buy a cheaper PSU (I Think)

Yes and no, the non-s version is more powerful, but you can only overclock CPUs that have a k or an x at the end of their name (i5-4690k for example).

The thermal design power (TDP), sometimes called thermal design point, represents the maximum amount of power the cooling system in a computer is required to dissipate.
they are same as i said and you cannot overclock the 4590 ......

In terms of performance it would be hard to tell the difference in most applications, though it would show up more in single thread. If both processors were 100% loaded you may also notice a difference.

Otherwise as everyone has mentionned, the 'S' line of processors are designed for slightly lower power conifgurations.
