I've been using i7 3820k since it came out few years ago and currently pairing up with GTX 980Ti. And Samsung SSD.
Other than internet browsing, Netflix and musics, its mostly for gaming. So called AAA games mostly. I dont do video rendering, photos videos editing stuffs like that.
With the upcoming Intel 8th gen CPU, Im thinking about upgrading my system first time for the past few years.
I have about 700+ dollars to spend, Should i upgrade my Cpu+MOBO+Ram? Or get the 1080Ti to get the most performance out of those 2?
Im thinking about the CPU combo but im not sure if the new Cpu will be bottleneck by 980Ti. Or the other way around. I will get them both eventually but for now, Im not sure which i should upgrade first.

Please advice.
Thanks in advance.

1080 ti isn't overkill for that monitor, but the 980 ti is good enough. It's just down to what kinds of games you play, what settings you want, and how much you want to spend. If that's the type of system you're shooting for I think an 8700k would be a good purchase for you, just wait a few weeks until all the parts are more available and at MSRP. I personally believe that the 8700K, 6C/12T and capable of over 5 GHz, is gonna be kind of like the 2600k where it's going to be a long time before there's a compelling reason to replace it, but we'll have to see.
980 ti is still a very powerful GPU. I still have one and I haven't really even considered upgrading. It does 1080p 144hz perfectly and even some Med/High 4k gaming with good FPS. As for the CPU, that's up to you. The 3820k is still viable, but you'll get a pretty decent bump in performance with something like the 8700(k). Just ask yourself if you're content with your current performance and, if not, what exactly is causing it. It's fun to get new parts but at the end of the day it's pretty easy to waste money on stuff you don't need if you're not careful.

what is the rule for hardware and software.... "never buy rev 1.0 "

I would wait until 8th gen comes out, watch all the "need to have latest version of hardware rush to get the new hardware and sell their own version 7th CPU and Mobos and get them for cheaper than you can get them now.

you 3rd gen is still good system, look at 7th gen and get a pc that will perform at about 5% slower performance than the 8th gen for 1/2 the price.
ps: I still run a 4th gen myself.

noted. thanks.

ultrawide monitor, 2560 x 1080 144hz
Just got the monitor few months ago, so ill stick with this resolution for a while.
is 980ti still good enough? 1080ti is a little bit overkill, right?

thanks.
