need suggestion on psu+case

I am planning to do some upgrade on my 4 year old system.. this is what I am planning to buy:

ASRock 4CoreDual-VSTA LGA 775 VIA PT880 Ultra ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 Allendale 1.8GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E4300 - Retail

WINTEC AMPX 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model 3AXT6400C5-2048K - Retail

and from my old computer I am adding two ata dvd burner, two 7200rpm ata harddrive ( 80gb each), radeon 9550 8x AGP and one PCI usb/firwire card.


I am looking for a very cheapo upgrade since the only thing I do in my computer is browse internet/ write some papers on ms word and ocassionally run ubunu linux on vmware..

My budget is around $100 for both case and psu.. I dont need any fancy stuff just something that works.. :?

Have a look at the Antec NSK 4400, it is bundled with the SU-380 PSU (spcr review link). Plenty of power for your specs.

NSK-6500 with 430W psu.. is there any good difference between two cases ( internally) or just the psu?..

Well your looking at about $40 to $60 for the PSU alone. Alo be sure to have a copy of windows. The copy on the old HDD will not trancfer over to the new system. Any time you change the motherboard, especialy if it's a compleatly different board, you need to do a fresh install of windows.

Well you can deleat the MB drivers first and then move the HD to the new MB.

I have seen Coolermaster cases (not the Stacker!) on sale each month for as low as $15 from a company in San Jose,California.

When you put a new build together the first thing you want is a proper PSU befor any other parts are collected.

Well the case is bigger, there's an extra drive bay so there is more expandability. The PSU is an SU-430 so it's also a seasonic-OEM, just as good as the 380 with the added power. Check out this spcr forum thread apparently there is added ventilation through the front panel, compared to the 4400, nice touch.

Here are antec's NSK4400 specs and NSK6500 specs so you can directly compare (I'm too lazy )

I decided to go with NSK-6500. It has slots for two 92mm fan at the front.. I found these fans at newegg:

are those the right one?.. I suppose the front fans needs to be intake fan and the rear fan is the exhaust fan.. but the spec in newegg doesnt say is its intake or exhaust..

good choice, yea those fans should work well and they are intake - the 120 in the rear should be set up correctly for exhaust. Not sure if the LEDs will be visible at all - if they shine through the front panel vent holes that will be an interesting look. The tri-speed is nice for quiet cooling 8)

Any fan can be either intake or exhaust - you simply turn the fan around.
