I have been looking at some tablets because I am thinking about buying one, but I have a hard time pulling the trigger because while I like the size and portability, tablets lack the performance I want. Or at least the performance I think I want....
First I just want to say that there will be new tablets coming out rather soon. This is because Microsoft will be releasing Windows 10 real soon; July 29th. And because Intel recently introduced their Cherry Trail generation Atom CPU which is replacing the older Bay Trail generation Atom CPU. There is actually no significant difference between the generation except the graphics core in Cherry Trail is more power. Synthetic benchmarks pegs the new graphics core at almost twice the performance of Bay Trail's graphics core. However, synthetic benchmarks can vary greatly when compared to actual game benchmarks.
The 10.1" Microsoft Surface 3 ($500) is the first tablet sold using the Cherry Trail CPU. You can go to your nearest Bestbuy to check out how it performs. This is one tablet I was thinking about buying, but the keyboard costs another $130. It's nice, but I am not sure if it is something I want. Resolution is 1920x1200.

At $350 is the 10.1" Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 which comes with a keyboard. This tablet uses the Bay Trail generation Atom CPU. It is going to be phased out real soon, in fact I was at BestBuy today looking for a new hard drive and I noticed they did not carry this in the store any more. But you can still buy it from Lenovo. One side has a cylinder which houses the battery (~12 to 15 hours) and allows you to get a good grip on the tablet. Resolution is 1920x1200.

There is also the Dell Venue 11 Pro which has the Core M-5Y10a CPU which is more powerful than the Bay Trail / Cherry Trail CPU, but less powerful than a Core i3 CPU. It has the Intel HD 5300 graphics core which is slightly more powerful than the Intel HD 4000 and more powerful than the Cherry Trail graphics core. It is more powerful than the nVidia 610m, but less powerful than the nVidia 710m. It has a 1920x1080 resolution screen instead of a 1920x1200 resolution screen like the other two tablet. Using it in portrait mode (like when reading an ebook) makes it seem weird because it is rather narrow. It comes with a keyboard.

#2 - MS Surface 3
#3 - Dell Venue 11 Pro
