Hi there, so about a month ago I got a new PC which worked fine until recently when I downloaded & installed the most recent nvidia graphics driver for my GTX 1080 (376.33 (12/14/16)).
When playing battlefield 1 after the new update (12/15/16) It first froze my Pc and my display was filled with textures (associated with a dying Graphics card) but then saved itself (display went back to normal) and an error message popped up relating to drivers and my graphics. I reinstalled the graphics diver and loaded Battlefield 1 again. However, 20 minutes into gameplay my PC shuts down and claims there was a power surge due to the PSU ( this has happened twice ). However, when playing other games in the past and recently ( such as 'Rise of the Tomb Raider' ) I have had no trouble with the PSU or GPU.

my question is: is there anything wrong with my PSU or GPU or is the problem related to Battlefield's new update and or Nvidia's new driver update ?

Here are my specs
CPU: Intel Core i7 6700K Skylake
CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X31
Motherboard: ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming
RAM: Kingston Hyper X 16-GB DDR4
GPU: ASUS GTX 1080 Strix - A
Storage: 120 GB kingston SSD & 2 TB Western Digital HHD
PSU: Cosair RM650X
Case: NZXT H440 ( Matte Black )

Solution
It definitely sounds like a driver issue and / or operating system issue. Have you been able to run a system restore to the point before you installed the drivers? I would suggest trying that.
As a long time nVidia user, I can tell you that recently some of their drivers have caused issues for some people although your issues are pretty severe. I would suggest simply rolling back to your previous driver. Odds are good that nVidia will very quickly update the driver if it is causing the problems.
