My son has a laptop issued by his middle school that he uses at school and home for school work. Up until recently, when at home he could also use it to watch Netflix or other non-school activities (things that are rightfully blocked when on the school network). Recently, however, there must have been some some sort of configuration change pushed out that forces the laptop to connect to the school VPN whenever it connects to the internet - even on our home wifi. So now he is subject to the school filter wherever the laptop is. He can't watch Netflix or visit any other sites that are blocked on the school network. While I recognize the school has the right to do this for hardware that they own, as a parent I think it is overly controlling and paternalistic that they are controlling his access off of school grounds and outside of school hours.
So my question is this: is there any way I can use my router to either redirect traffic or block the VPN connection so the laptop can access the internet as usual without being subject to the school VPN filtering?
