Need to boot Linux Mint OS from USB

So my Windows XP has failed and keeps rebooting at startup. I Have only a CD drive as DVD cannot read anymore and so Im left with booting from a USB..

I downloaded the Linux Mint Qiana 17 OS which is about 2GB which ofcourse cannot fit onto a CD so still left with the USB option. Anyone knows on how to create a bootable Linux USB drive successfully so that it can install? As I've tried a few 'burn .ISO to USB softwares' but the PC either goes to the Start in Safe Mode menu or errors such as "NLTDR file is missing" comes up...

Ive tried burning the .ISO image with Software such as MagicDIsk, ISO2Disk,Free ISO burner, Rufus 1.4.9 but all still end up with errors mentioned above. Any help will be really great..

Ok, so Ive done that (used the universal USB installer) and ran it again on the machine to boot..all that came was 'NTLDR is missing" "Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" .. What does that mean?

So what can/should I do now?

Make it not do that.
Change the boot order in the BIOS, or select the proper key(s) to cause the boot selection menu to appear when you power up.

Hmm, still no luck, I'll just try updating the BIOS and see if anything changes

Ok, so now thats done, the machine now cannot read the bootable USB drive...Is it the USB im using? Its a Udisk 18GB...if all fails then I guess I'll just have to find a working DVD/CD drive and just burn the ISO to a DVD and boot from that..

Whilst doing some researching, I found that this to be a common unsolved problem with the machine Im working on (HP Compaq dc7600 small form factor)...Oh well.

Solution: My USB was a UDisk and my motherboard does not entirely support UDisk. Solution was using a non-UDisk USB. Thanx evry1.
