I have an ongoing charity hobby project of collecting unused laptops from friends and neighbors and coworkers, refurbishing them (often putting linux on the really old machines) and giving them away to underprivileged students.
I was recently given an HP ProBook 4540s laptop (shipped with Windows 8). I'm prevented from working on it because the fingerprint reader is locking me out of even accessing most of the early startup menu, so I can't boot from a Linux DVD, for example.
How can I get around the fingerprint reader so I can work on the machine?
