The same applies to me too..I don't wanna mess arnd with overclocking unless it is software based. I have no idea whether either x850pro or x800 xl can be overclocked frm software or nt. If tht's possible then I wud think abt x850pro (as it seems to have more OC potential) otherwise the price diff. seems enough to me to go for a x800 xl...

ATiTool will let you control overclocks on the core and memory in software and can also assist in finding the maximum core and mem speeds. It has a good artifact checker as well.

Yeah I just went with what you had replied to about an 8-pipe GT when replying to you.

I think the confusion was that he went with the OP's original assumption/question rather than correcting it when saying 8-pipe GT which in reality turned out to be just a 6800XT.

Hey, NV has allowed it's partners to make 42 million variations of the 6800's now that clock speeds, pipes, and even memory interface all have to be mentioned or we have no idea what level of performance we are talking about. It makes for a real pain in the neck. XT and LE are 8-pipe and clock speeds vary bigtime, 6800 and 6800GS are 12-pipe, although a 128-bit 6800 exists in the crappy Asus 512MB. Funny asus released that junker when Asus had earlier made a 6800 clocked identical (350/1000) to the much later released AGP 6800GS. (they went from making the best "vanilla" 6800 to the worst 6800, way to go ASUS). The 6800GT came in a slower memory clocked 128MB version, 6800GS PCI-e are clocked higher than AGP, is it DDR1 clocked 600, 650, 700MHz or DDR3 clcoked 800, 900,1000 Mhz, etc..... :x

I didn't know Asus' 6800 was an 8 piper, I tend to look the other way when they come out with a video card. Asus motherboards.......good, Asus video cards........not so. Whenever I've read a test or tested one I've found them to be seriously overpriced and slower than constipation. I've tested the X850XTPE (the PE was somewhere on it) against my XFX6800GT when I had it and the 850 was faster. but it all comes down to what you play, I play both OpenGL and DX games, Nvidia does both best, but the 850 was faster in benches.
PREY looks sweet on my rig, anyone playing it on an ATI card ?

Asus's 'special' is not an 8-pipe, it is a 12-pipe vanilla 6800 but with a 128-bit memory bus and 512mb DDR2 (to sucker in the gullible idiots). The lack of bandwidth possibly places it behind the 8-pipe 256-bit cards. This is the only 6800 series card I know of with a 128-bit bus.

XT, LE 8-pipes
(no name, also sometimes called vanilla), GS 12-pipes
GT, Ultra 16-pipes
