I am moving to a new apartment and the only option I have is to get At&t internet with speed only upto 5mbps. There is xfinityfreewifi about 300 feet away from my apartment and I was wondering if someone could suggest options for me?

I tried a usb adapter (Asus USB-AC68) from outside the apartment as I dont have access to the apartment just yet and I wasn't able to catch the wifi. I was able to catch the wifi from the parking lot but just barely.

Please help guys! Thanks!

Likely it will not work. If you had a barely usable signal outside there might be a chance but when you have nothing there is not much hope.

Your only real option is directional outdoor bridge equipment. Since it is directional you need a clear line of sight path to where the router is. You would have to find a place that works that the apartment will allow it. The next problem is most the so called free hotspots are inside someones house. The person that own the router may decide to move it inside their house or turn off the power. They could if they were like me disable the feature entirely.

Be aware it is not actually "free" you must have a comcast account someplace else to use it.

It is strange you went with a apartment that has poor internet if it is important to you. It is a large selling point on some apartments that have things like google fiber.
