I've not completely disassembled my Dell Optiplex 7060 SFF PC. I'm trying to determine if it has a slot for the wifi card. Here is a picture where I think it might be, below the blue drive outlet that is slanted...

After more searching I found this on the Dell website and it appears that must be the m2 slot for the wifi card. Page 14 https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/optiplex-7060-desktop_specifications2_en-us.pdf

according to dell the board should have the following M.2 Connectors, so yes it should have a connector for a wifi card.

1 - 2230/2280
1 - 2230 (keyed to support Integrated or Discrete WiFi,
Support Intel CNVi or USB2.0/PCIe)

Quite frankly i would call up dell and give them your S/N number off the sticker on the case and order a wifi card from them for the computer. The newer SFF computers when they come with WiFi have a little black antenna that mounts to the back of the case.

Yes, I would prefer to have an internal antenna. I will call them.
Just hoping someone here might know of a cheaper route. I had another office PC, an HP, that I wanted to add an M2, and HP's price for it was insane, so hesitant to go to Dell.
The one I put in the HP has external antenna, but definitely would have preferred internal.

No, you don't want an antenna internal in the PC case.
The case will block off the WiFi signal significantly.

I have two other PCs that are fine with the internal antenna. But they have the OEM ones, and assume the antenna wire are routed in a way that is best. I wish you could just stick the wires on the outside of the case. I have to assume plastic does not block the signal but steel does.

This all depends on the design and the case.

A metal case WILL block that signal.

Yeah pretty sure they run the wires to the front of the case, behind plastic.

Any idea how I can determine what M2 card to get? Would it matter if I ran this PC with Windows 10 Pro or Windows 11 Pro? Currently the plan is Windows 10 Pro dedicated to run an older non-subscription edition of QuickBooks2019, which I am told needs Internet Explorer. This will be a business PC only used only for QB. But it is also being suggested that I should run Windows 10 Pro virtually on the PC for this purpose.

Basically, any "M.2 WiFi" card of the correct size (2230) will work.

I see many on Amazon from $20 and up.

Is there a real need for this to be WiFi, instead of wired ethernet?

For the dell's you will get an M.2 wifi card with a black and white antenna wires. those will pas through the back of the case to a little antenna that clips the the back plate on the case.
Okay so probably best to just get a decent one for a good price with antenna on the back.

Thanks to everyone for their help!
