I am looking to upgrade my hardware to play some of the more modern games and my processor needs to be updated. I am currnetly running GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3, and want to know what some of the better processors are to play games like Black Ops 4 or the new Tomb Raider game.

My current processor is a AMD FX-8350 Vishera and G.Skill Ripjaw X series 16GB 240 pin DDR3 SDRAM.

I already know I need a new GC, so any other information would be helpful.

Thanks in advance!

After the FX-8350, there really isn't a better cpu to purchase for your motherboard. You've hit the top. A better solution to your problem is to update your entire platform from FX to Ryzen. This includes 8-16 gb of DDR4 RAM, a B450 or X470 motherboard, and a new processor(the R5 2600X is a great pick.) Paired with a powerful gpu, that configuration can run any game flawlessly. If you're cash strapped, then save to upgrade as putting more money into AMD's old platform is a waste.

You are indeed at the top of the food chain for your motherboard. For the new games coming out you'll want 4 cores/8 threads or 6 cores/6 threads at least. So your options:
1. Buy an older motherboard/CPU combo, an i7 2xxx or newer. You can buy them separately or as part of a pre-built system. Then get the power supply and videocard you need. This probably will cost less, but you're buying old tech so that's the downside. It'll be better than what you have now, plus you can reuse some things like DDR3 ram.
2. Buy a new CPU and motherboard and DDR4 ram. This will cost more, but will be much faster, and will be brand new parts, and will bring you to the new tech level. Ryzen 5 or Intel i5 is where I recommend you start if you're buying new.
