I've spent a few hours trying to solve this issue and no matter what i try the problem continues.

I was using windows 10 but I had done the update from windows 8.1 so I am guessing many files were carried over. I used this version of my os for several months without any issues. Last night I decided to do a clean install of windows 10. Even though most things are working this error (0xc000007b) is driving me crazy as I have spent several hours trying to solve it.

The popup says: The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application.

In this case it is a game I am trying to run through steam.

I have made sure my gpu has the latest dirvers as well as direct x 12. I have seen many posts on this forum where people suggest replacing dll's from windows/system32 or windows/syswow64. I have tried them but the problem persists. I've tried safe mode, reinstalling.. nothing works.

Windows update says windows is up to date.

From what i have read this is a direct x error? Not sure what to do here... I out of ideas.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Your running the Game via a desktop Icon.

Have you tried right clicking on the icon and running as an Administrator ?
Firewall is blocking execution of file.
Or system security settings.

One or the other should resolve the error, it normally points to insufficient privileges in windows, depending on the account type you have.

Let me know if it works for you.

Hey Shaun thanks for trying to help out.

To answer your questions:

Yes, I had tried running as admin both from the desktop icon or directly from the *.exe itself.
I just added the exe to the firewall exceptions but that doesnt seem to help.
What other system security settings did you have in mind?

Thanks again

Its more of a case of any antivirus software causing the problem.
I know Avg antivirus if installed can cause an error like it due to it`s real time memory resident protection shield.

And that by disabling it if you have it running can resolve the problem.

It`s about all that I can think of at the moment.

This is so frustrating. I uninstalled antivirus, in my case avira, and after restarting the problem is still there. From what I have read online it may be the case that windows 10 doesnt have a legacy dll that might be needed. The strange thing is this is the second time I have dont a freshh install of windows 10 but the problem is the same one everytime. I didnt have this issue when I upgraded ontop of win 8.1.

I out of options since I know that reformating the pc will not do the trick.

Thrid restore to a clean windows 10 installation. ANd I finally fixed it. What fixed it? God only knows.. I the only thing i did differently this time (3rd time) was that as soon as win 10 booted. I installed ALL directx version as well as .Net versions. After doing that I let windows run the windows update. I figured this way I would install any legacy drivers or dlls that I was using when I upgraded from windows 8. Hopefully this helps someone, although it is far from a step by step.

I wish I had an answer. I'm at the point of downloading tools that I have to pay for, but nothing I've tried so far has made any difference.

The worst aspect to all this is that Microsoft evidently has zero interest in fixing this problem for its customers, who then have to scramble and tinker for their own solutions.
