To ground myself i was thinking that i would use the psu as a grounding mechanism since i don't own a antistatic wristband. To properly do this i think i should plug in the psu into the wall and leave the power switch off and have my toe/foot touching the metal grill on top of the fan at all times when handling my motherboard and other parts on top of a wooden table. Is this the correct way to do this? If there is another way to efficiently to get rid of all the static please tell me.

You're correct. The PSU should be plugged into the wall with the switch off and you touch the metal screws on the PSU. Although I don't touch it all the time. Every few minutes or before touching a sensitive part I ground myself.
