When i built my rig 8 months ago i bought 4GB of Kingston Hyperx Blu. It's been working well, but it's time that I upgrade to 8GB. Switching in and out of games is very sluggish, and crashes are common.

Well here is my problem. It seems that Hyperx Blue has been discontinued. It's out of stock everywhere. Which means I am forced to purchase a different 4GB stick for my rig.

Can I do it? What 4gb stick would you recommend? Cheers.

You can but no guarantees, but it would most likely work. What are the specs on your stick now? Get something that matches it or slightly faster, you can always slow it down to match your current stick, that gives you some head room, make sure the voltage is the same.

I would recommend a 4 GB stick of the cheapest RAM you can find:
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Memory: Corsair XMS3 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory ($24.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $24.99
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

There shouldn't be any problems. The faster RAM will be underclocked to the speed of the slowest RAM.

If you want 100% compatibility, though, I would sell the existing 4 GB stick and get this kit:

Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($64.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $64.99
