[SOLVED] Need to recover data from Fujitsu Mobile MHT2040AH - hard drive ATA-100?

I need to recover data from a Fujitsu Mobile MHT2040AH - hard drive. According to the specs the drive has an ATA-100 interface. The interface has 22 flat pins plus a separate bank of 4 jumper-style connectors - see photo:

Does anyone know what sort of adapter I need to access this from a desktop PC (e.g. via USB?)

That's nothing more than an adapter. Remove it and you'll find the standard IDE connector.

I don't see how it can remove it. Pulling it doesn't work, and I don't see any screws

It's a tight fit. It simply pulls straight off. Use a small set of pliers if necessary. Pull from the middle, otherwise you will bend the pins

Oh hang on I just pulled it much harder and it have managed to remove it. So can I plug that into standard IDE interface?

That's nothing more than a standard IDE drive.

Hmmm...I'm trying to fit it to an IDE/USB adapter but the IDE adapter has 20 pairs of pin connectors whereas the Fujitsu drive has 22 pairs. Basically it doesn't fit. Any ideas??

The IDE standard has not changed since it was introduced. There are only 40 pins used.

So if the drive is a standard IDE why does it have 44 pins (well, 43 as one of them is blanked off)? But more importantly, how can I fit a 43-pin drive to a 40 pin interface?

This article refers to the 44-pin variant of the standard, which I guess is what this drive has. Does anyone know of an adapter (available in the UK) which I can use to connect it to USB or SATA on a desktop?

Trying to use a desktop cable with a laptop drive is not going to work. Yes, upon further research (haven't actually seen an ATA laptop drive in more than 5 years) there are additional pins on the drive. This requires a 2.5" ATA adapter.
