Need to Recover lost drive

My computer started intermittent freezing and became really slow. Restarting fixed the problem, but on one occasion it didn't and I reset the computer while the system was starting.

Then I got a "disk read error. press alt+delete to reset" and I said <mod edit>

I've recently re-installed windows 7 on another ssd drive. However, I have important information I need from my old drive but it's not showing up anywhere.

Is there anyway to repair my old drive?

If you can't see the drive in bios, then your best option is to restore data from a backup. You could try Recuva, but if it can't see the disk, it won't get anything. The last resort is sending the drive to a recovery service and pay(a lot) to get the data.

check that: i see it in the bios (when I select boot menu, I see it. But when I select that drive to boot from, it reverts to the new ssd drive) I also see it in the device manager. Is there a way to repair the system files on that drive to get it working again?

Before doing anything, back up anything on there you need. You should be able to boot up to a live linux CD(like knoppix) and then you should be able to see the drive, and copy data to a usb drive.

You could try booting to a windows cd, and see if it finds the OS. If it sees the OS on the drive, it should give you the option to repair it.

for some reason, my bios isn't giving me the option to boot from the CD. Are there any Microsoft utilities that can repair separate drives?

Tried Recuva and it doesn't seem to be detecting the drive either 🙁
