I need to rename files, I need to take the first 6 characters in the current name and add 7 characters before (all the same for all files).

I must use existing software on my window 7 computer (such as powershell).

What type of files?

As long as you have administrator priviledges and you are not trying to rename windows files (o/s files), all you need to do is right click the file and use the rename function.

Be very careful doing this because if you rename a needed system file, your system may crash.

This sounds like a homework question to me which is why he can't do what you suggest.

@OP: Is this a homework question?
