Need to update my PSU please help?

I have a 550w xfx right now and I have been told that that is no where enough power for my rig. I was told to get at least an 850+. Could anyone recommend a good one that isnt stupid expensive? Thanks.

FX-8350
16gb Ram
GTX-970 4b OC
2 Black WD Hard Drives

550W is more than enough for a rig built around a single GTX 970. You'll be fine (even with a 500W high-quality PSU). Get only the 850W if you plan to SLI 2x or 3x GTX 970s.

I agree, 550 watts is plenty for that system.

Ah, I was told that its not enough power, causing my system to "dumb" down the capabilities due to not having enough power to run at full capacity...

Note also that your PSU should be in the upper tier category (should be in the Tier 2) of this list: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html . Tier 1 and Tier 2 PSU's are of very good quality, reliable, efficient and safe.

You are good with your current PSU.
