[SOLVED] Need to upgrade from an AMD FX-6300

I'm new to building PCs and I got this prebuilt build 4 years ago and I'm finally getting around to upgrading my GPU and CPU but I'm not sure where to go CPU wise. I know I'm going for a 1070 on the GPU upgrade.

Here are some basic specs;

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.50 GHz Six-Core AM3+ CPU

MOTHERBOARD: GIGABYTE 970A-DS3P AMD 970

MEMORY: 16GB (4GBx4) DDR3/2133MHz Dual Channel Memory (ADATA XPG V3)

GPU: Saphire Nitro AMD Radeon R9 380x

Build on a new Ryzen platform. FX is now a dead end.
No CPU on that board can handle a 1070.

What is the make and model of the PSU and how old is it? Is that ram kit a quad channel kit? You will need to look into a new board, CPU and ram combo if you want to move out of the FX platform. Anything in the FX series is moot in this day and age.

Where are you located and how much do you want to spend on your upgrades?

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XYHLgw if you want to spend around $300 on upgrades you could get a ryzen 7 1700, x370 mobo, and 16gb ram. This definitely can handle a 1070. I included a new psu in case yours is low end. If you want to spend less you could go for a 2200g system.

This is also a good option. It does have a low-end motherboard and 8gb ram rather than 16, but 2600 is slightly newer, and faster in games. It is a little worse for some workloads. Your pick what to buy.
