Hey guys so I currently have a shitty Hitachi 5400 1.5TB hard drive.

My system starts up pretty damn slow from shutdown, and I am using Windows 8.

I tried purchasing a barracuda 2GB with the 1GB platters, but the boot time and load times on some games really did not impress me. I did fresh install Windows 7 instead of 8 on that drive, but still was surprised at how slow things seemed for a 7200 drive.

I want a fast hard drive that will give me increased boot times and will be good for gaming.

i am cool with just 1TB if it will help save me money, I sort of want to stay under 100 dollars because I am also buying a 780 tonight and am going to be dropping about 500 on that. I have heard good things about WD, but am confused which wil be better for my needs for gaming and what not, the blue or black.

I would prefer to order on NewEgg because I am getting my 780 from them as well and can pick up at the warehouse in City of Industry. Thanks a lot guys!

One more thing: Will I notice a huge difference at all with any of the 7200 rpm? Or am I better off just saving my money and trying to increase the performance on this drive? I am wondering if maybe part of the reason bootup seemed slow on the 7200 rpm was because I put Windows 7 on it (Although I do want to run Windows 7 instead of Windows 8, but I am cool with keeping Windows 8 if it has that much better boot times)

Solution
If you want speed put your OS on this~http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147247
You will be VERY impressed.
Keep your games & large downloads on the 7800, the game launchers on ssd.

I had an SSD in my original build for booting, and I have a question.

The problem I had was that all the defaults downloads and directories and everything defaulted to the SSD and kept filling it up. Can someone link me a guide to change the default directories to the bigger hard drive? I have an SSD that I think shit on me but I can try and see again if it works

Ok, Just tell it. ~http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/112232-internet-explorer-change-default-download-location.html

SSD should be drive C:
HHD should be drive D:
Game downloads from Steam, Origion, Ubisoft, ect.... can be assigned @ download (game) time, or set @ your account settings (default location), for each account. Very important to always make sure it goes to D: drive

*Never de-frag a SSD* if you want to wipe it let me know. (after you move anything you don't want to loose).
Try reformatting it first.* ;)
