Need to Upgrade on a budget and in steps

Hello everyone,

I built a somewhat decent pc a few years ago on a budget that I used for last gen gaming. I'm looking at upgrading in steps as I don't have a lot of money right now. I'm going to do 1 upgrade every quarter for this year. I primarily use this PC for gaming and would like to be able to run new games. I'm not a pro at computers and basically watched youtube videos and put the PC together myself. It runs the games that I like playing like Skyrim, Fallout 3, New Vegas, Civilization 5 and 6.

I would like to run current gen games at a decent resolution. I don't have a monitor and use a 42" TV. Here is my setup:
Intel I7 3770 3.40 GHZ Ivy Bridge
Maximus V Formula
socket 1155 LGA
8gig DDR3
I have 2 corsairs 4 gig @ 667MHz
AMD Radeon GD 78000 Series 2 Gig

Not sure what to start upgrading first and what I can still use. I would really appreciate any help you can lend me. Every quarter I can allocate around $250 for an upgrade. If it's worth it, I may be able to stretch it to $350.

Nev.

I would suggest a CPU, Motherboard, and RAM. The problem is systems switched over to DDR4 memory shortly after you built your PC. So that is why you need to replace those three e components at one time.

You can schedule it how you like. But there is another problem. If you spread it out, you can't test it for operation. If you upgrade those at the same time, you can exchange components that don't work.

But power supply and graphics cards can be purchased anytime (they can be used on your current system).

He isn't getting a 42" TV. He is using a TV instead of a monitor.

The I7 3770 is six years old and is locked. A 3.4 quad core is going to bottleneck most mid-level and higher graphics cards. Plus the OP is wanting to upgrade.

He can't upgrade to fourth generation or above without a motherboard change. And DDR3 is going to place a big limitation on any upgrade.

I think I may bite the bullet and follow your instructions on doing the upgrades for the Motherboard, CPU and RAM.
I'm going with what you suggested Terry. I have to find some RAM still.

Will my graphics card be ok to use with this setup? I'll buy a new one in a few months.

Would this RAM work? G.Skill DDR4 Trident Z 3000Mhz

Unfortunately, being from Canada, I can't get that bundle. I'll have to buy everything separate. Amazon seems cheaper than newegg here in Canada. The total cost will be $565. I may even purchase the new graphics card at the same time. I'm willing to pay around $350.

I like the Corsair Corsair Vengeance LPX. It seems to work well with Ryzen systems.

The GTX 1060 is a good choice. If your case has the room, get the two fan model. It will cool the card better.

On another track, the Ryzen 3000 series should be coming out in a few months. Something to think about .

Whole the 3770 is old it's still absolutely capable of 1080p 60htz gaming.

I'm not saying getting yourself on an upto date platform is a terrible idea but at the minute the weakest thing in your system is that old 7850/7870 2gb gpu.

The fact you're running a maximus v, one of the best boards of its era, which has sata 3, usb 3.1, wireless ac, bt4 etc means you aren't missing out on any newer technologies anyway.

Gpu upgrade should be your first port of call imo.

That's going to give you an instant improvement for current gen gaming.

We don't however have any idea what psu you're using??

It need to be upto par
