Need to upgrade to 64bit!

So I recently added some ram just 4 more gigs and now I need to upgrade to Windows 10 64bit since half the ram is not being used :*(. I don't have a original windows 10 computer it came with windows 7 so how do I upgrade not lose any files. If I have to lose files I guess I can backup them somewhere else.

You always want to make a full system backup to an extrernal hard drive before making any significant system change. After that, I'd make a new partition of 100 GB or more and do a clean install of Win 10 64 bit in it. Be sure you have compatible device drivers.

I have a windows 8.1 key and this computer comes preinstalled windows 7 I tried the keys they don't work
