I have decided to upgrade my PC with AMD Ryzen 9 9950x3d (already ordered) and I need help finalizing the following things. ( I plan to keep the upgraded configuration for at least 10 yrs+ and hence looking for a future proof upgrade)
Approximate Purchase Date: this week
Budget Range: reasonable
System Usage from Most to Least Important: Mainly Photoshop and Adobe Premiere pro to Net surfing and occasional gaming.
Are you buying a monitor: No (I already have a LG 27GL850 2K 144hz gaming monitor)
Parts to Upgrade: CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950x3d (Already ordered)
RAM: Need 32gb x 2 dual channel kit
Motherboard: Confused between MSI x870e Tomahawk and x870e Carbon or any other x870e motherboard
CPU cooler: I plan to reuse Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler I already have with a new mounting kit or should I get a different one? (I am little scared of liquid coolers so plan to stick with Air coolers only)
Thermal Paste
Graphics Card:
Plan to reuse the Zotac Nvidia 1660 Super 6gb I already have or should I upgrade?
Storage: which 2 tb M2 ssd should I buy for the OS and also need advice on a 8tb hdd for backups. Plus I plan to reuse my 1tb Samsung 860 EVO sata ssd as well.
PSU: I have corsair HX850 850watts platinum fully modular power supply which I plan to reuse
Cabinet: I have Cooler master HAF X cabinet which I plan to reuse.
Do you need to buy OS: No
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: amazon.in
Location: New Delhi, India
Parts Preferences: Need an AMD Ryzen 9 9950x3d based system for Photo and Video editing with RAM from Corsair or GSkill.
Overclocking: No
Multiple GPUs: No
Your Monitor Resolution: 2560x1440
Additional Comments: I have been running my PC with 2nd Gen Intel core i7 3930k (Sandy bridge) with 16gb RAM and Asus P9X79 Pro motherboard. Finally after 14 yrs, I have decided to upgrade my system since it's no longer compatible with the latest versions of Adobe software (mainly Photoshop and Premiere pro) and also support for windows 10 is soon coming to an end it's incompatible with Windows 11 as well.

Thanks in advance.

Sweet spot for DDR5 platforms is DDR5-6000Mhz with tight latencies, dual channel and has AMD's E.X.P.O advertised on it. Steer clear of ASRock motherboards.

Users are advised to stylize their threads with info asked of in this thread;
and the community will chime in with worthwhile suggestions.

And I have a Corsair HX850 PSU in Coolermaster HAF X cabinet which I think should suffice the upgraded system?
Since you intend to recycle the PSU, is this the unit you're working with;
https://www.corsair.com/ca/en/p/psu...i_c6RVcaJ5WDxUazJ381N3rLnDa-vB3leXMdq_Zqigmbf
? If so, that unit was released in 2009.

Lastly I have the noctua thermal compound which I bought probably about 9-10 yrs back which still is unused and in the sealed package. Can I use the same on I need to buy new one?
Where are you located? If you're in a tropical'ish, hot, humid country, then your thermal paste would've dried out by now.

Thanks for quick reply. I will keep in mind the guidelines for future post as now I am required to upgrade my system ASAP. ( P. S. I am drafting a new post content as per the guidelines provided and will modify my main post as soon as it's done)

The PSU I have is this one: https://www.corsair.com/ca/en/p/psu...num-certified-fully-modular-psu-cp-9020138-na

It's manufactured in 2020.
Also What thermal compound do you recommend?
I am located in India and yes we do have hot and humid weather here.

That is a very good quality PSU. I would not have any reservations about using it with this upgrade since you plan on keeping your existing 1660 gpu, and that unit would still be under warranty. If you upgrade this gpu in the future, then I would consider an upgrade.

I would see if the thermal paste has not hardened or separated. If its hardened, it wont come out of the tube, and if its separated you will visibly see that, but may be able to mix back together. If If you need a new tube, Noctuas own NTH1 compound is good, as is anything made by arctic. A lot of thermal pastes are similar anymore as long as they come from a name brand. Alternatively you could consider a phase change material such as a PTM7950 which should theoretically last forever.

As far as motherboards, I would lean towards b850 over an X series board. X series boards are very very rarely worth the price increase, and for your use you won't notice the difference except for a lighter wallet. Most b850 boards except for the very cheap models would work well, theyre good quality almost across the board. Do make sure you update the bios to the latest to avoid any problems in any case.

Crucial T500s recently have been well priced in the states for 2tb models. If theyre reasonably price there its a good model.

Thanks for the reply. Also do you think the Noctua NH-D14 cpu cooler with AM5 mounting kit would suffice the 9950x3d?

I believe it would be just fine. Air coolers haven't really evolved much over the years as they're relatively simple devices.
In the last few years air coolers have largely caught up to AIOs, and they beat AIOs hard on the price. A 35 dollar Thermalright Assassin spirit 120mm cooler is better than the Noctua NH-D15 while being the same or better noise levels. This was achieved largely with small incremental manufacturing improvements with some small heat pipe improvements as well.
