Need Windows 10 64-bit driver for older HP LaserJet 5 printer

Just bought a new surface laptop and want to use it to print to an older HP Laserjet 5 printer on my home network. Having a very difficult time finding that driver anywhere. Would appreciate any and all suggestions.

There probably ISN'T one. What is the exact model number of the printer?

Thank you for asking. The model is HP LaserJet 5. That's it. I know there are variations like 5M or 5N, but it's just the plain old vanilla LaserJet 5.

Every printer ever made has a specifications label on it somewhere unless it has been removed. Exact model number should be on there somewhere. I'll try to find one without it, but if it is more than five years old the chances are very, very slim.

And if none of those solutions work, try HP support. I know they are generally worthless, but who knows. It seems a LOT of people have the same problem as you after the Windows build 1803 update and I'm not sure there is a solution to your problem at this time. Possibly not ever. I had to ditch my old Samsung laser printer after upgrading to Windows 10 a couple of years back as there never was a driver released that would work.

Sorry it wasn't an answer that was more likable. Hopefully maybe one of those solutions will work for you or HP support might be able to point you to a newer driver they've released recently. Best of luck getting it resolved either way.

Have you tried a Win 7 driver for that?
Seems there has been some small success with doing that.
