My current system is a celeron 600@900mhz,Abit-be62,128mb pc100,Voodoo3-3000, etc.
I have the chance to buy a Geforce2MX 32mb with tv out, and was wondering if it would be much quicker than the voodoo3? I don't want to blow $400.00 on a gts or an ultra(that's what they cost is canada) Does anybody have any suggestions?

Do you use glide D3D or opengl
if you use glide at all stay with the voodoo3
if you dont use glide go for it , i have seen 32meg sdr on pricewatch for 86$

Does it really matter that much? I thought the geforce2mx would be faster than the voodoo3 3000. For example in quake3 or whatever game, if I just run it in opengl wouldn't it be faster than the voodoo3 3000 in glide? It should be, no?

You have me confused now man! You say both dont support opengl? Ok listen, will games in glide run faster with the geforce2mx than the voodoo3 3000? If not then what good is it? Why is everyone talking about this card if it isn't much better? You think it should be, the voodoo3 is getting old now and the geforce2 is supposed to be the best cards.
Can anyone answer this?

Differant games support differant APIs (Glide, D3D, OpenGL). He is saying that most games that have a GLIDE option run better on a Voodoo card than any other card (in D3D or OpenGL). However most newer games support D3D and/or OpenGL exclusively, which the GF2MX runs way better in.

So, voodoo 3 for glide games. GF2MX in any other game.

Who says Unreal Tourament can't run OpenGL. Thats what I run in 32bit color at 1024x768. In fact its seems to be working for the last few months. However I do admit it is alot easier to run in Glide. My friend runs it on a Abit BP6 with a Celeron 466 and V2 12megs in SLI. It runs as good as my machine.
P3 733
256 megs PC133 Crucial ram
GF2 Pro at 225 core, 450 mem

If you got Glide games I who get some old V2 and run them in SLI. Then get a good Nvidia card to run your primary stuff. That seems to be the best way to do it and have the best support.

I just upgraded from a v3 2000 to a hercules prophet II mx a couple of days ago. It didn't seem too much faster on the games I ran. I only have two games with me now: Heavy Metal: Fakk2, which runs on a version of the quake3 engine, and Rune, which runs on a version of the unreal tournament engine. The games ran about the same in 32-bit color as my v3 did in 16bit. The major difference that I noticed, though, was in 3dmark2000. I scored a 2707 with the v3, and 4809 (5153 after oc'ing the memory from 183 to 193, core to 200). It runs on the maxfx engine, which is going to be used in the Max Payne game which has yet to be released. I figure that upcoming games will probably run a bit better on the geforce2mx. Also, the v3 doesn't take advantage of agp, so if you have a board that can do 2x or 4x it will probably be worth it. I'm glad I purchased this card and it was $150 (I didn't want to spend the money on gts either, not that I had the money for one anyways :)).
