Hello all.
needing some advice on a CPU upgrade, to run video games smoother as well as able to render videos (university film and TV student.)
I'm currently using a 'gigabyte f2a68hm-hd2' motherboard and an 'AMD A8-7650K Radeon R7' CPU.
Any advice on what I should upgrade it to?
Tom

Solution
You could upgrade your platform for around 300:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1600X 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor (£122.40 @ Aria PC)
Motherboard: MSI - X370 GAMING PLUS ATX AM4 Motherboard (£74.98 @ Ebuyer)
Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory (£123.46 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £320.84
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

You will NOT get good performance out of a 1080 on your current platform. So I would wait to upgrade the GPU until AFTER you have a good platform for it.
Even the low end new processors are going to be light years faster than that old FM2 processor you have. Unfortunately you will need a whole platform upgrade, CPU+mobo+RAM, so be prepared to drop some dough. What is your budget and what purpose is this computer? Are you planning on using a discreet graphics card or integrated graphics again?
