Needing to replace memory, please assist with compatibility

Hello

I am getting a single "beep" at startup on a gateway (store bought) older desktop p.c., cannot get anything to come up on the monitor, says no signal...everything is plugged in.

The 4 sticks or ram in the pc is

GDDR2-800 1GB 128MX8. 1.8V

Do I need to replace with same size RAM ?

Do I need to replace with 4 sticks?

Any recommendations for replacement memory, this is a spare that is not used a lot, but has lots of photos and files stored on it.

Your motherboard spec will tell you what ram you can use. What make and model Motherboard and CPU do you have?

It is a gateway dx4200-UB001A

Just noticed on the side a sticker that has
Memory- 6gb ddr2. Dual channel
Processor is and phenom 9550 quad core

You need to know the specs of the motherboard. What make and model motherboard is in the PC?

I can't find any names on the board, not sure where the paperwork that came with it is. Anyway other way to find maker of it?

It says "Four DIMM slots support up to 8 GB of DDR2 800 / 667 MHz memory "

But there's no list of tested and approved memory.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR2_SDRAM says "The highest storage limit of a single piece of memory module based on DDR2 SDRAM is 4 GiB." and that it should be 1.8v.

Is the ram for desktop PCs? (240 pins)
