I think I can do clean install of 10 on new 500gb ssd. but how do I turn win 10 500gb ssd C drive that is maxed out into non win boot drive???

What are you actually trying to do?
What specific drives do you have, and how much used space is on them?

carried too much baggage from 7 to10 would like a NICE CLEAN c drive. Have a external backup of 7.
Actualy have 250gb ssd empty in internal ,recently been trying to load everything new on to2 TB hard drive. Any ideas greatly apreciated

So, on your current 500GB SSD C drive, simply move some stuff off it to elsewhere.
Then Upgrade that drive and OS to Win 10.
Then, if desired, clean install on that drive, wipe out everything, and start over.

No need to undo your current SSD as the boot drive.

And you can't swap drives AND upgrade to 10 in the same movement. One or the other first.

Wait a minnit...you already have 10 on that drive?
If so....
Create your own DVD or USB for Win 10. Here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Use that to redo the install on a different drive if you choose. Or the current drive.
Start over, with no carried over junk from Win 7.
