Question Negative results from faster ram

Hello all! I had 2 spare 8gb modules of 3200mhz ram and decided to put them in my friend's pc. He has an i5 7600k on an Asus Strix z270e motherboard. I installed the ram and enabled xmp but his pc actually performed worse in Time spy, Firestrike and Cinebench r20. Once I swapped back to his old 2400mhz modules his performance went back to normal. Any ideas why this may be happening? Thanks in advance!

Are those 2x8GB sticks from one kit? Or are they two completely different RAM sticks?

They are both from the same kit. They're corsair vengeance rgb pros

Were they installed in the correct slots and running in dual channel at 3200mhz? Did you make sure to enable XMP?

Yes I installed them in dimm slots A2 and B2 per the motherboard's manual. I also enabled xmp in the bios and checked using cpuz that everything was working as intended

Make sure your BIOS is up to date first.

What were the timings for the 2400mhz kit and 3200mhz kit?

High speed kits with very loose timings generally perform worse than lower speed kits with very tight timings.

The 3200mhz is 16-18-18-36 and im not sure about exact timings of the 2400mhz kit but it was definitely c14. That said the pc was also a bit laggy while running multiple tasks using the 3200mhz kit.

Do you guys think it could have something to do with the voltages or the cpu clock speeds?

I'd clear the CMOS and try the new sticks again.
