I have the Neo 2 Platinum 939 board currently fitted with 2 x 512 sticks of DDR
PC500 memory running of course in duel channel mode.

Has anyone had any problems running with 4 x 512megs to give the total of 2gig.

Does it still run in duel channel mode? or single.

I would think I would have to slow my mem timings a little but I'm just testing
the water before I spend my cash on 2 further sticks.

Cheers

That may depend on memory modules. Normally, it should run in dual
channel mode.

The memory will slow down from DDR400 to DDR333.

I strongly suggest that you should take a look into the manual. You
should find some useful information there.

I have the same board with 2x512 pc4300/533.It should work ok with two more
512 sticks but you might have to ease the command rate from 1T to 2T.
The manual says that the board works fine with 4GB (4x1024) ECC ram.I don't
know if you overclock, and if that is true maybe the board cannot reach the
same level with 4x512 sticks.

Yes,if you use 2 x 512 sticks.You could also check the board's review at
anand:

http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2128

Just a quote from that review🙁DDR 400 speed)

The MSI K8N Neo2 was able to run with all 4 DIMM slots at the same
aggressive 2-2-2-10 settings used for 2 DIMMs. However, as we have seen on
the other 939 boards running all 4 DIMMs, Command Rate must be reduced to 2T
when filling both Dual Channels.

In answer to my own original post and for others info.

Yes it does work fine with 4 x 512megs. I still get duel channel memory showing
on the boot screen, but like a few posters suggested and shown in the manual one
does have to slow the memory down to 333 and use the 2 tick setting.

In fact the performance hit is quite a lot when measured on benchmarks, for
example my 3dmark2001 score went down from 24025 to 22500 so quite a big hit
there.

Did I notice any difference upping from 1gig to 2gig?
I cannot see any noticeable difference, maybe just possible that my games such
as HL2 etc. may just be a wee fraction smoother but it may be wishful thinking
on my part.. LOL

But certainly no problems, and still very stable indeed, although 2 errors
showed up on test5 of memtest86 which were solved by upping the voltage 1 notch
to 2.55v.

I'll keep it in for the time being, but may sell it eventually and get the 2
1gig sticks. On looking at the manual 2 x 1gig sticks will run at the 400
speed and therefore is the better option.

Hi, I am looking at doing a similar thing (going from 2x256 DDR400 to
4x256 DDR400 on my 865PE Neo 2 Platinum - P4 with HT)

Is the lowering from 400 to 333 an AMD thing or would it apply to Intel
chipsets as well???

Have a look in your manual, it may give some info regarding this.

AFAIK its a limitation of the Nvidia nforce chipset.
